The Marietta Center for Advanced Academics has been named a National Blue Ribbon School.
U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan included the school among 236 to receive the honor this year. The school was in the “exemplary high performing” category because of high scores on state tests.
Third to fifth grade students attend the magnet school where they take an accelerated curriculum emphasizing science, technology and math through an “interdisciplinary project-based” approach in a “one-to-one computing environment,” according to the school.
The family of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. has served notice to Gov. Nathan Deal that it wants input into any monument to the slain civil rights leader erected on state Capitol grounds – if the state expects free use of King’s copyrighted likeness.
