An electrical fire temporarily shut down the train and “moving sidewalk” Thursday night at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The fire occurred between Concourses C and D at approximately 7:29 p.m. and was quickly extinguished by airport employees, Myrna White, spokeswoman for the airport, told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Firefighters arrived on the scene about five minutes later, she said.

Travelers were diverted away from the area while investigators tried to determine the cause of the fire, White said. No injuries were reported, she said.

“To prevent further congestion in the area, aircraft were not allowed to deplane passengers on Concourse C until 8:15 p.m and Concourse D until 8:30 p.m.,” White said in an emailed statement late Thursday.

Train service resumed around 8:30 p.m. By 9 p.m, the smoke had cleared and normal operations resumed, with the exception of one section of moving sidewalk between concourses C and D, White said.

Airport officials estimate that about 1,000 travelers were affected by the fire Thursday night.

One month ago, the airport’s train service was stopped due to smoke in the tunnel, which triggered a fire alarm, The AJC previously reported. In the Feb. 15 incident, the train was suspended for about an hour when smoke was spotted between Concourse D and baggage claim.
