Douglasville woman wins $1 million in Powerball

By Nancy Badertscher

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

A Douglasville woman who has worked two jobs for the last five years won $1 million in the Aug. 3 Powerball drawing.

Trena Tusinski matched the first five numbers, winning a $1 million prize and collecting it Aug. 6 at Georgia Lottery headquarters in Atlanta.

Tusinski works in medical imaging, but has held a second job for five years.

“I was on my way to my second job when I stopped for a ticket,” Tusinski said. “I asked the clerk to scan the ticket I already had. She paused and said, ‘This one is a winner!’”

Her first thought was to call her sister and share the news.

“I was shouting ‘I just hit the Powerball’,” she said.

Tusinski intends to pamper herself.

“I want to pay off bills, buy a new house, help my family and buy a new car,” she said. “I’m going to invest, but I want to treat myself for working hard.”

Shell Food Mart, 4081 Anneewakee Road in Douglasville, sold the winning ticket.

Wednesday’s Powerball jackpot is at an estimated $50 million to a single annuity winner.

Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Players can add the Power Play feature for an additional $1 per play to multiply non-jackpot prize winnings.
