Crossing guard struck at elementary school in Canton

A crossing guard was struck by a minivan early Wednesday morning in front of Hickory Flat Elementary School in Canton.

Michelle Hale, 42, of Canton, was struck at the school at 2755 E. Cherokee Drive, shortly after 7 a.m, according to police. She was taken to North Fulton Hospital with leg injuries. Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening, police said.

The minivan driver, Alexander Hopkins, 18, of Canton, was cited for driving with an obstructed windshield and obedience to a traffic controller, police said.
