Union City firefighter gets 5 years on child porn charges

A Union City firefighter has been sentenced to five years in prison on child pornography charges.

A federal court convicted Justin D. Corley, 31, of Newnan, of collecting and sharing images of child pornography, sometimes while on duty as a municipal firefighter, according to U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates.

Corley was implicated last November in a Department of Homeland Security sting. The agency initiated a peer-to-peer file sharing operation to identify people in the Atlanta area involved in the receiving and distributing of child porn online. Investigators found that Corley collected and shared child porn files with other collectors using a wireless IP address assigned to the Union City Fire Department, according to Yates.

“This defendant collected a large number of horrible images and videos portraying the sexual abuse of young children,” said Yates. “Mr. Corley has justly earned a significant sentence for his role in victimizing these children and by violating his public position.”

In February, federal agents executed a search warrant at Corley’s home and seized his laptop, which held more than 9,000 photographs and videos of child pornography. He pleaded guilty and was convicted of these charges in July.

Corley was sentenced to five years in prison, followed by 15 years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution.
