The Georgia Bureau of Investigation believes it was a deputy’s bullet that killed the Hall County murder suspect who exchanged gunfire with authorities Friday afternoon, but an autopsy will have the final say.

Jason Foreman, 45, died Friday at a home on Melinda Drive in Barrow County, where authorities believe he fired a shotgun at Hall County deputies there to arrest him in connection with the Thursday murder of acquaintance. One deputy returned fire, and another suffered a “superficial” wound.

Following the exchange, the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office and Hall County SWAT team were called to respond. A GBI robot eventually entered the home and verified Foreman was dead, but it was initially unclear if Foreman killed himself or was killed by the deputy who fired at him.

“It is believed that the deputy’s shot killed him,” GBI spokesman Scott Dutton said Sunday via email. “But waiting on the autopsy.”

That autopsy — as well as “further forensic examination” — are scheduled for Monday, Dutton said.

Authorities believe that, the day before he died, Foreman killed a man in Hall County.

According to Hall County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Nicole Bailes, authorities responded to a home on Cagle Road at about 6 p.m. Thursday, finding 32-year-old Jessie Weber stabbed in the chest. Weber was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and underwent surgery but later died.

The circumstances leading to Weber’s death are still under investigation.

Foreman was a resident of Lula. His connection to the home where he died was unclear.
