Thieves caused extensive damage to a southeast Atlanta church when they stole copper pipes from the attic, causing leaking water to flood the building.
Pastor Richard Johnson discovered the damage to Victory Baptist Church on School Drive Tuesday night.
"I arrived about 7:15 p.m. for Tuesday night Bible study, and we got a study in vandalism instead," Johnson told Channel 2 Action News.
The church had installed iron grating around the building's outside air conditioning units to deter copper theft, but the thieves broke in and used a ladder to access the attic.
Water from the broken pipe brought down insulation and ceiling tiles, and puddled on the floor of the church.
