Thieves stole more than 20,000 pounds worth of dog food from a southeast Atlanta small business, police said.

The warehouse storing products for Intown Healthy Hound at 189 Milton Avenue was burglarized Wednesday night after closing, according to Atlanta police.

The store is the only location in the state that sells the brand “Pet Chef Express,” according to police reports.

Owner James Galloway told Channel 2 Action News that the stolen food amounted to $35,000, or three months’ worth of food.

“They took over 800 bags,” Galloway said. “So they touched 800 20-pound bags.”

Neighbors told police they didn’t witness anything at the business, but police said the suspects apparently cut a hole in the fence of the next-door property, climbed through the warehouse window and used a forklift to move pallets filled with the dog food and load it onto a vehicle.

There is no camera or alarm on the property, police said.
