Jordan Permenter, 18, is charged with murder and aggravated assault. He was shot in what police have described as a shootout that stemmed from an argument.
“There was an exchange of gunfire and all three of the individuals were struck,” DeKalb County Police spokeswoman Mekka Parish said. “At least one of the victims had a weapon and the suspect had a weapon.”
Police were called to the Sanford Oaks Apartments at 2035 Idlewood Road around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Parish said.
“Detectives say the two victims drove to the apartment complex to meet the suspect,” she said. “At some point they all got into an argument when shots were fired.”
One man was found dead inside a vehicle and another was wounded outside the vehicle, police said.
Police haven’t identified the dead man pending notification of his family.
The injured man, who also hasn’t been identified, was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition, police said.
Officers were then called to Clark Drive, about a quarter of a mile away from the apartment complex, where another shooting suspect was found.
“We arrived and later determined that that person was connected to the shooting at the complex,” Parish said, saying that individual was Permenter.
He was also taken to a local hospital in stable condition, Police said, and records show he was later booked into the DeKalb County jail.
Police are looking for Permenter’s relative, Travis Permenter, 22, who is being considered a person of interest.
