Cops: 2 men arrested in connection with metro Atlanta robberies

Police arrested two men in Decatur, who they believe could be connected with a string of metro Atlanta area robberies.

The U.S. Marshals Service arrested Roderick Thornton, 41, at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday at his Decatur apartment, said Gavin Duffy, a supervisory investigator with the U.S. Marshals Service.

The U.S. Marshals Service had arrested a second suspect, Lewis Bernard Flagg, on Wednesday, according to Duffy.

Flagg is being held in the Rockdale County Jail on charges of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Duffy said other counties are investigating to see if the men committed robberies in Chamblee, Fayette, Rockdale and Cobb.

“The same technique was used in all the robberies,” he said. “That caused some suspicion.”

No information is available at this time about why police and federal authorities believe the robberies across county lines were connected or why Flagg and Thornton became suspects in those robberies.
