A man was taken into custody by the Clayton County SWAT team Monday after a bomb threat at a gas station.

Police responded to the Valero gas station on Ga. 42 near I-675 in Rex around 2:40 p.m. Witnesses said a suspicious man loitering in the store and repeatedly asking what time it was said that he was going to detonate an explosive device, Officer Chandi Ashmore with the Clayton County police said in a news release.

People fled from the store, and police evacuated the immediate area.

The bomb squad found the suspect in the bathroom and he was taken into custody after talking with negotiators.

The suspect’s name has not been released.
