Report: Athens man threatens neighbors over grill smoke

By Fran Jeffries

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

This Athens man could serve as the poster child for anger management classes.

Charles Cecil Craft Sr. drew an aggravated assault charge after he got upset when smoke from a neighbor’s grill blew into his yard.

He was arrested last Wednesday after he allegedly threatened two women with a knife over the offending smoke, according to a report in the Athens Banner-Herald.

Craft has been charged with aggravated assault three times since 2004; in those incidents, he stabbed a man in the neck with a knife, he shot a man in the foot in a second incident, and in 2008, he repeatedly beat a man with a stick.

There were other incidents dating to 1994, police told the newspaper.

Alcohol may have played a role in Craft’s alleged willingness to assault, police told the newspaper.
