The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating a man who may have tried to abduct children in a neighborhood.

The incident happened Sunday off Steel Bridge Road, near the BridgeMill community, according to Lt. Jay Baker with the sheriff’s office.

“A caller advised that his 11-year-old daughter and her friends were on a scavenger hunt as part of a birthday party,” Baker said in an emailed statement Thursday night. “While walking around the subdivision, a white male exited his vehicle and chased after the girls, who fled the area.”

Deputies were dispatched the area, but neither the suspect nor his vehicle was located, Baker said.

The suspect is believed to be in his late 20s or early 30s and is average height and build with dark hair, witnesses told investigators.

The man was seen driving a silver, four-door passenger car, possibly an Audi, Jetta or Honda, Baker said. The vehicle is believed to be a 2000s model and has scratches and small dents, and the last three numbers of the tag are possibly 697. The car also had dark tinted windows, according to police.

Anyone in the area who sees the car or suspect is asked to contact 911.
