The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

One woman was killed and three others injured when two vehicles collided early Saturday afternoon in Cobb County.

Police said Irene Giannangelo, 72, was driving north on Mars Hill Road around 12:20 p.m. when her 2011 white Ford Escape crossed the center line for unknown reasons and struck a white 2006 Mazda MPV, driven by Julia Rivera, 31.

Both women are from Powder Springs.

Giannangelo was rushed to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, where she died a short time later from her injuries. Rivera also was taken to Wellstar, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries, Cobb County police spokesman Mike Bowman.

Two children who were riding with Rivera were taken to Children’s Health Care of Atlanta Scottish Rite Hospital, where they were being treated for non-life threatening injuries. A third was not injured, Bowman said.

He said no charges are expected to be filed.

Anyone with information about this crash is asked to call (770) 499-3987.
