New bridge closes downtown street
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Construction on a pedestrian bridge between the Hyatt Regency and Marriott Marquis in downtown Atlanta will cause Peachtree Center Avenue to be closed until late Sunday.
Around 2 p.m. today, contractors of the bridge began laying the bridge steel that will serve as part of the foundation for the bridge.
The bridge is part of an effort to connect the Hyatt Regency, Marriot Marquis and Hilton hotels as part of the Atlanta Alliance, Terri Ward told the AJC.
“When it is complete, the bridge will allow for a steady flow between the three hotels,” Ward, director of public relations for Hyatt Hotels Atlanta said, “Thus having an economic impact on the city and the three hotels.”
The bridge will be the last pedestrian bridge built in downtown Atlanta, Ward said.
“According to a city ordinance, this is said to be the last one,” she said.
Peachtree Center Avenue is expected to re-open by 6 p.m. Sunday, Ward said. And if all goes as scheduled, the new bridge will be open the 1st of July.
