The student at De La Salle High School in Concord was arrested on Thursday after allegedly sexually assaulting a girl after a playoff game. On Friday, his father spoke with the East Bay Times, insisting that the interaction was consensual.

“He’s tall, dark and handsome; he plays for De La Salle. There’s a lot of girls that want to be with my son,” he said. “When young, fast girls see something they like, they go after it. ... She’s the one that basically chased my son down. They were just two teenagers having sex; they were just doing it at the wrong place at the wrong time.”

The father – a registered sex offender himself, having been convicted of child molestation – went on to say he doesn’t want his son, who “feels like he lost everything,” to be a “victim.”

The girl first reported the incident to her principal and later to local police, who quickly made the arrest. Her father also has spoken out about the assault.

"This is an irreversible mistake," he told KGO-TV. "I had to sit back and wait while the kid was still going to school across the street from my daughter after he raped her."

The football player has since been released from custody and has not yet been charged. The Concord Police Department is continuing to investigate.
