Melinda Lebarron was attacked by a bear outside her home near Muncy while she was outside with her Chihuahua, who happens to be named Bear, WHPT reported.

Lebarron was dragged about 88 yards before she was able to free herself and call for help, Mike Steingraber, a game warden with the Pennsylvania Game Commission, told WHPT.

Lebarron is in critical condition and will need multiple surgeries, according to a GoFundMe setup by her family.

separate GoFundMe was set up to help pay for injuries Bear suffered during the attack.

Black bears are common in the area, but it is uncommon for them to attack humans unless provoked, wildlife officials told WNEP.

"Pennsylvania's rifle deer season just ended, and there were deer parts in close proximity," Chris Krebs, a state game warden, told WNEP.

Game wardens are searching for the animal, which will be euthanized once it is caught.
