In about 12 years, one in four people of college age in Georgia will be Latino. So how are colleges tailoring their messages to recruit these  students?

Here’s an excerpt:

When it comes to reaching Latino students, recruiters face several obstacles: There is the question of affordability, language barriers and students' desires to support their families.

Of course, the recruiters also need to be in the right place at the right time, which explains why Eric Cuevas, a recruiter from Georgia Perimeter College, set up a booth at Fiesta Georgia, one of the state’s largest Latino festivals.

“If you want to get the students, you have to win over the abuelas," Cuevas said, using the Spanish word for grandmothers. “Part of recruiting these students is reassuring the mom, grandmother, uncle and everyone in the student’s life that college is the right next step.”

Colleges say it is essential to recruit these students because they will form such a large segment of Georgia's workforce in years to come.
