More granola bars recalled for possible salmonella
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
It has been a bad couple of weeks for granola bars.
Last week, Health Valley recalled three of its flavors -- Peanut Crunch, Dutch Apple and Wildberry Chewy -- because of possible salmonella contamination.
Now, Trader Joe's is expanding its recall of its Chocolate Chip Chewy Coated Granola Bars.
The California company is including all code dates (SKU 82818) manufactured by Bloomfield Bakery, a subsidiary of Ralcorp Holdings, Inc., according to Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tommy Irvin.
In an alert issued Monday, Irvin said the recall is necessary because the granola bars could be contaminated with salmonella.
The product comes in a 7.4-ounce box and was distributed to Trader Joe’s stores nationally.
Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems, Irvin warned. Healthy people may experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
Consumers who have purchased the bars are urged to return them to any Trader Joe's store. For more information, call Trader Joe's at 626-599-3817 on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
