A MARTA supervisor was fired after 10 employees were caught sleeping on the job, a spokeswoman told the AJC.

An investigation began after a staff member caught employees in the electrical power and equipment department sleeping on duty on June 24, MARTA spokeswoman Cara Hodgson said Thursday.

The department's supervisor was terminated for performance and policy violations, Hodgson said. The 10 employees were suspended for 10 days without pay, she said.

"MARTA takes this incident very seriously and will not tolerate this type of behavior," the company said in a statement.
