MARTA gets $685,000 to prevent terrorism

The Department of Homeland Security is awarding MARTA $685,980 for preventing terrorism as part of the federal stimulus, Secretary Janet Napolitano announced Wednesday. The department is awarding $78 million to 15 transit systems, and MARTA got the smallest amount.

“The award will pay for two new bomb detecting dog teams for three years, and bomb detection equipment,” said MARTA spokeswoman Cara Hodgson.
