Looking for a Georgia neighborhood with high school quality, low crime rates and overall top-notch livability? Consider a move to Decatur, which, once again, topped Niche.com’s list of best suburbs in the state.
To come up with the list, analysts assessed 4,875 suburbs in the U.S. and considered several key factors such as cost of living, crime rates, quality of local schools, employment and access to amenities.
For the first time, analysts also incorporated millions of reviews from residents about their community.
Niche defines a suburb as “a place located within a Census-defined urbanized area, but outside the principal city with a population of at least 1,000.”
On top of its best suburbs ranking, the company also created lists for best cities, neighborhoods, places and counties.
With an overall A+ Niche grade and an A+ in public schools and good for families categories, as well as in commute and diversity, the city of Decatur ranked No. 1 among 100 Georgia suburbs and No. 26 nationally.
That’s a big jump for the DeKalb suburb from No. 63 in the nation last year.
In addition to being the No. 1 best Georgia suburb to live in, Decatur also came in at No. 32 in Niche.com's "2017 Best Places to Live in America" and was named one of metro Atlanta's best suburbs for millennials in 2016.
The city also ranked No. 2 in the site's "2016 Places with the Best Public Schools in Georgia," behind Gwinnett County's Buford.
Of the top 10 best Georgia suburbs of 2017, two are in DeKalb County, four in Fulton, three in Gwinnett and one in Fayette.
