The Woodstock Fire Department bike team has gotten a big assist from a pair of Levo HT “Electric Assist” bicycles valued at $7,650 total, purchased for the department by the Woodstock Public Safety Foundation.

While the Levos have pedals like conventional bicycles, an electric assist kicks in on steep hills, allowing responders to reach patients over difficult terrain quicker and with less physical stress, officials said.

The machines were provided by Out Spokin’ Bicycles, which has equipped and advised the fire department bike team since its formation in 2011.

“The purchase of these ‘electric assist’ bicycles will allow us to better serve our citizens and visitors” Fire Chief Dave Soumas said. Bike team members complete a 16-hour training course and deploys at larger events as well as on trails for routine patrols, training and in responding to calls.
