Ceremonies for the groundbreaking for a trail extension and a ribbon-cutting for an expansion of the city senior center are both planned for 5:15 p.m. Jan. 22 in front of the William G. Long Senior Center, 223 Arnold Mill Road.

The Rubes Creek Trail extension will connect the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Amphitheater in downtown Woodstock with the Rubes Creek Trail Head, across the street from the senior center, officials said.

The senior center expansion, to be made complete, included a 2,400-square-foot multi-purpose room for arts and crafts, exercise classes, meetings and other functions, officials said. The project was partially funded through a $250,000 Community Development Block Grant.

“We’re very excited about unveiling these two projects. I believe these projects further our commitment to provide exceptional leisure opportunities to our community,” said Preston Pooser, parks and recreation department director.
