Woman arrested in fatal hit-and-run

A woman was arrested Tuesday night for the hit-and-run accident that killed a 20-year-old college student Saturday night.

Bobbie Jo Sumner, 39, was taken into custody for allegedly fatally striking Alexandra Desir, of Locust Grove, with her car as Desir was walking on Rosa Avenue in Barnesville, according to Ginger Story with the Lamar County Sheriff's Office.

After police arrested Sumner, her ex-boyfriend Robert King was arrested for his suspected connection to the case, Story said.

Desir, a student at Gordon State College in Barnesville, was walking to her job at Huddle House when she was hit, a school official said.

“We are all heartbroken at the tragic loss of this young woman’s life,” Gordon State spokeswoman Tamara Boatwright previously said.

Charges in the case are still pending, Story said.
