The town of Tyrone is buying the site of the former Fayette County Fire Station No. 3.

The county Board of Commissioners signed off on the purchase on Oct. 25, following approval by the Tyrone Town Council on Sept. 20 to pay the county $5,000 plus the costs associated with conveying the property. The county had offered the building for sale previously but the town did not initially accept the offer.

The old fire building, on Senoia Road next to the current police station, is currently vacant “without a possible tenant,” according to Tyrone council minutes. Tyrone is considering development options for the property; Fayette County built a new Fire Station No. 3 on Jenkins Road in 2014.
