The city of Atlanta has launched an online map to help commuters plan their routes while the I-85 bridge is being reconstructed.
CommuteATL uses travel alerts from Waze to show road closures, accidents and travel speeds on a map in real-time, according to a recent news release. The map also shows the locations of Relay bike share stations, up-to-date locations for the Atlanta Streetcar and information for MARTA, including bus and rail schedules and parking lot conditions.
The map is in response to the March 30 fire that caused a section of I-85 in Buckhead to collapse. The aftermath of the closure has caused widespread confusion and frustrations for driver and residents.
“For the next several weeks, the city of Atlanta asks the public to choose transit, tele-commute, and use ride-sharing services as much as possible,” Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Public Works Commissioner William Johnson said in the release.
The website was launched through two partnerships. One involves the city sharing information with Waze, and the other involves the city receiving technical assistance and guidance from the Rockefeller Foundation-supported 100 Resilient Cities network.
Earlier this month, MARTA launched a webpage that tracks the status of some of its parking decks and reports that to commuters.
