Officers were called to the 500 block of Thurmond Street about 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Sgt. John Chafee said.

The boy was taken to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. He was stable when he got there, but his current status is unknown, Chafee said.

It is also unclear how the boy got the gun.
