Update-Brookhaven

Last week, we told you about Byron Williams’ issue with traffic lights.

“The traffic signals on North Druid Hills Drive are poorly timed going eastbound. The light at the intersection of I-85 and North Druid Hills Drive backs the traffic up all the way to Buford Highway. I work in the Druid Chase Office park and it is impossible to get out of West Druid Hills Drive because people block the intersection,” wrote Byron Williams.

We got a quick response from Brookhaven.

“The issue is, this intersection has a very high volume of traffic from all directions. Sometimes we make a slight adjustment to the light timing, but when we do, the complaints shift to the commuters travelling in the other direction.

“The long-term fix is a complete re-engineering and construction of the I-85/North Druid Hills interchange. In partnership with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, there is $14.3 million that has been agreed upon for this purpose, ($10 million for construction, $4.3 million for engineering, underpass improvements and walking trails/bike paths that connect to the Peachtree Creek Greenway,” wrote Communications Manager Burke Brennan. He said this has not yet been presented to the ARC for their consideration, but it is expected in the near future, as Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta is in the process of building a $1 billion pediatric medical campus at that very location.

“In the interim we will continue to monitor, and if necessary adjust, the timing of traffic lights at this location,” Brennan wrote.

Pat Morris hopes something can be done about two major potholes.

“These are the two potholes on Houston Mill Road approaching LaVista Road. Ridiculous!” Morris wrote.

We sent the issue to the city and will keep you updated.

Jeffrey Grimm hopes something can be done about a situation in Buckhead.

“I work on East Paces Ferry Road in the Resurgens Plaza building and travel on Lenox Road frequently as well. The right lane on Lenox Road between East Paces and Peachtree, as one approaches Peachtree (parallel to the Bucket Shop), is an utter disaster. Potholes and torn up asphalt make driving in that lane treacherous to one’s car. I would think that Lenox Road as it runs parallel to a beautiful mall like Lenox Square would be in much better shape,” he said.
