Smyrna to dedicate park, community garden

Smyrna officials will dedicate the new 52-acre North Cooper Lake Park and first official City of Smyrna Community Garden on Saturday.

In addition to the garden, the park includes a paved walking trail, off-road bike trail and open meadow. The park was partially paid for with $22 million from a 2005 parks bond referendum. The remaining $6 million was contributed from other sources.

The community garden was designed by city resident and landscape architect Sean Murphy, who donated his design services. Murphy also designed a community garden in Suwanee.

Smyrna’s garden will be managed through the Keep Smyrna Beautiful program and community volunteers. The garden will begin with 59 plots available for lease.

The dedication begins at 10 a.m. For more information, or to lease a garden plot, contact Keep Smyrna Beautiful at 770-431-2863.
