The Duluth City Council voted earlier this month to allow the Racetrac at 2596 Pleasant Hill Road to renovate and update the convenience store and gas station. The request made by Andersen, Tate & Carr on behalf of Mountainprize, doing business as RaceTrac, was approved with conditions.

The convenience store will be updated to a new company prototype. It will have a more community activity center feeling. The purpose of the modification is to remodel the existing building to include new signage, a new façade, a walk-in cooler and kitchen, along with an extension for outdoor eating.

The council expressed some concerns about the company’s request for updated signage, but agreed to the proposed monument signage and not the cabinet design. The approved signage would remain a total area of 150-square-feet, but the inside portion with gas prices will be larger.

The store will be shut completely for a minimum of 45 days up to three months to complete the renovation.
