An 8th grader was arrested after allegedly bringing a loaded gun to Austin Middle School on Wednesday, according to the Paulding County Sheriff's Office.

A Paulding County eighth-grade student was arrested after he was found with a loaded gun at Austin Middle School, the sheriff’s office said Thursday.

The boy, whose name was not released, showed the semi-automatic handgun to another student, who alerted a school administrator Wednesday, Sgt. Ashley Henson said. The boy was removed from class and the gun was located, Henson said.

It was not known whether the student intended to use the gun or had made any threats, Henson said. The boy was being held at the Marietta Youth Detention Center.

Austin Middle is located on Ridge Road in southern Paulding County.
