Peachtree City will not rebuild the storm-damaged picnic shelter at Shakerag Knoll in the McIntosh Recreation Area. The City Council voted 5-0 on Feb. 15 to instead reallocate $85,000 of repair funds toward construction of a new pavilion at Drake Field next to Lake Peachtree, as part of that area’s ongoing enhancements.

City Manager Jon Rorie said the Shakerag facility was used mostly for infrequent special events, and that renting tents for that purpose would cost less than rebuilding the shelter. The picnic tables will remain at Shakerag, and the gazebo at the site is being remodeled for continued use.
