The FAA ordered a ground stop on all flights headed to the airport because of the power outage.

Major airlines JetBlue, Delta Airlines, United Airlines, Southwest and American Airlines have canceled all flights for the remainder of the day.

“It’s crazy in here. It’s cold in here. There’s no heat. There’s no food. We’re hungry over here,” one passenger said.

Mayor Kasim Reed said Sunday night that they are working with Chick-fil-A to provide food for people stranded at the airport.

Passengers said they have very little cellphone service at the airport, and they said without a working P.A. system, they don’t have a way to check on loved ones.

“My father’s 91 years old and was flying in from Ohio. He doesn’t have a cellphone. He needs wheelchair assistance and nobody can tell us where he is,” another passenger said.

Some passenger said they don’t understand why there is no backup system at such a busy airport.

“It’s incredible to me that there’s no precautions to prevent something like this from happening,” a passenger said.
