A new 40-acre passive park on Rockaway Road in Peachtree City has been approved by the City Council.

The city agreed on Oct. 4 to enter into an agreement with the nonprofit Southern Conservation Trust to create the Somerby Woods Nature Area adjacent to the Somerby senior living complex just off Ga. Hwy. 74 South. The property will be left mostly undisturbed except for two miles of passive trails and an observation deck overlooking Line Creek. The trails will be marked with educational signage, and a butterfly garden will be installed near the senior complex.

Peachtree City will retain ownership of the property and will transfer a $25,000 donation from the Somerby developer to the Trust, but the Trust will assume all responsibility and costs for maintaining the park.
