The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced a “quick response” project at the intersection of Knox Bridge Highway (Ga. 20) and Herndon Drive in Canton.

The $156,736 project addresses traffic where Marietta Highway (Ga. 5) joins Knox Bridge. Northwest Georgia Paving Inc. will install dual left turn lanes in the southbound direction at Ga. 20 and Herndon, and a median in front of the RaceTrac gas station driveway to enhance safety and improve traffic flow, GDOT said.

Work is under way and is expected to be completed in 60 days. The project will require occasional lane closures, night work, shoulder closures and traffic pacing. Motorists should be aware of advanced warning signs and watch out for contractor personnel and vehicles in the work zone.

The GDOT Quick Response Program supports low-cost operational projects on the state highway system such as restriping, intersection improvements, and turn lane additions and extensions. The projects can be done quickly, typically for less than $200,000. Information: https://bit.ly/2JrfwkW
