The Forsyth County Juvenile Court has been designated a “Partner in Prevention” by a nonprofit organization, Darkness to Light, to recognize the extra steps it has taken to protect children.

The court earned the designation by providing “Stewards of Children” training, addressing child sexual abuse, identifying unsafe situations and practices, and reacting responsibility, to 90 percent of its management, staff and volunteers, officials said.

“It is our responsibility, as the juvenile court, to ensure the safety and well-being of children,” said Juvenile Court Chief Judge J. Russell Jackson. “By providing the Stewards of Children training to our staff, we can hopefully prevent child sexual abuse.”

A number of Forsyth County agencies are engaged in the sex abuse prevention initiative under the leadership of the District Attorney's office and Forsyth Community Connection, officials said. The goal is for 5 percent of Forsyth adults to receive Stewards of Children training. Information: https://www.d2l.org/
