Fayette County is continuing its program to refurbish the lighting at McCurry Park’s soccer fields. The Board of Commissioners recently awarded a $216,500 bid to J.M. Clayton Company to replace the lights at fields 22 and 23.

The new high-density discharge lights will have glare-control features. The expense is part of the Parks and Recreation Department’s Capital Improvement Project budget. In 2003, the county began studying which sports fields needed the most attention based on safety concerns and overall operational costs.

Light replacement began in 2004 and has been done at 21 fields at the McCurry, Kiwanis and Brooks parks.
