When DeKalb County police arrived, 22-year-old Jordan Morris lay in the grass Wednesday afternoon, a gunshot wound to his left cheek.
Moments earlier a witness had seen a man with a long rifle chasing him in full daylight through the parking lot of Super Inn on Wesley Chapel Road, according to a police report. The witness heard 10 gunshots.
When a police officer stood over the Decatur resident, Morris’ had his eyes closed and wouldn’t respond.
Morris was pronounced dead within an hour, at 4:50 p.m., outside the hotel off I-20.
Two days later there have been no arrests, but investigators are apparently working leads.
“Detectives believe the victim was targeted and this resulted from some type of ongoing dispute,” Maj. Stephen Fore told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “Detectives are still working to identify suspects.”
