A final public hearing and vote are scheduled to take place during the 7 p.m. Oct. 25 meeting of the Cobb County Board of Commissioners on code amendments, mainly concerning the accessory special event parking license.
Government-owned or controlled properties and parking lots that satisfy zoning requirements for major tourist attractions are not required to obtain an accessory special event parking license.
However, private companies would have to meet several requirements for approval.
Not just for SunTrust Park, these parking licenses would affect major tourist attractions defined by the county as 12 or more acres for an amusement theme attraction, a park, convention center, performing arts center, an amphitheater or a stadium “which promotes the tourism interests of the county.”
Also, these parking licenses would be needed for special events on private or public properties, drawing at least 2,000 participants and spectators and involving one or more of six activities such as the closing of a public street.
At least 30 days in advance of the initial special event “and any subsequent events of the same nature,” a nine-item application must be submitted to the Business License Division of the Cobb Community Development Agency.
If the one-year license is approved, eight guidelines must be met on the event day.
Should the license be denied or revoked by the Business License Division, appeals may be made to the Cobb County Board of Commissioners, then to the Cobb County Superior Court.
