City of South Fulton approves resolution to temporarily waive annexation application fees in an attempt to gain residents and businesses.

During the City Council meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 11, the city of South Fulton Mayor and Council approved a resolution to temporarily waive application annexation fees for residents and businesses who wish to annex into the City of South Fulton, according to a press release.

“I am very proud of the residents of the City of South Fulton and their vote to move South Fulton forward in the November 2018 election,” stated Mayor William “Bill” Edwards. “Our decision to waive annexation application fees works to encourage residents and business to apply for annexation and is a testament to the level of service they will receive if annexed into the City of South Fulton.”

The adoption of this resolution comes after the November 2018 Election, where a majority of residents voted to repeal the Fulton County Industrial District Constitution Amendment. The “Yes” vote “lifted the cap” on the Fulton Industrial District and allows the city of South Fulton to apply for annexation of FID. Annexing FID into the City of South Fulton, would allow Fulton County Schools to continue to receive approximately $10.3 million that they would lose if FID is annexed by the city of Atlanta.

“The city of South Fulton is the rightful home to residents and businesses within the Fulton Industrial District and we welcome residents and businesses into the City with open arms,” stated City Manager Odie Donald II. “Waiving these fees streamlines this process.”

The Resolution allows the city to waive annexation application fees through April 1, 2019.
