The cities of Canton and Holly Springs will hold a neighborhood garage sale of sorts when the combined, surplus inventories of the two municipalities are auctioned off in April.

Jeff Dobson & Associates Inc., auctioneers, has been retained by the cities to dispose of items ranging from office furniture to police cars. The auction is to start at 9 a.m. April 29 at 160 McClure St., Canton.

The city councils of Canton and Holly Springs recently approved lists of surplus goods to be disposed of. Canton’s list includes such items as televisions, file cabinets, a mechanical floor scrubber, a gumball machine, three Ford and GMC pickup trucks and five Ford Crown Victoria police cruisers.

Holly Springs’ list is heavy with technology – computers, monitors, printers, iPads and the like. A Holly Springs spokeswoman said items valued at $500 or less would be offered for sale to the public, not auctioned.
