The Georgia Department of Transportaton is planning to replace the decades-old bridge carrying Ga. 369 over Lake Lanier.

A heavily-used Forsyth County bridge in place for decades will be getting a replacement.

The Georgia Department of Transportation has awarded an $11.2 million contract to E.R Snell of Snellville for replacement of the Ga. 369 bridge over Lake Lanier’s Six Mile Creek. The new bridge will be built adjacent to the current structure, which officials say will facilitate the future widening of Ga. 369 across Forsyth and Hall counties.

The 1955 bridge will be demolished once the new structure is in place and any future of the expansion of the highway will take place on the site of the demolished structure. Completion is expected May 2019.

DOT officials deferred action on another Forsyth project, the repaving of Ga. 20 stretching eight miles east of the Cherokee County line.
