A student at Douglass High School has a gun on campus, officials said.

A student was found with a gun at Douglass High School Friday, according to a statement from Atlanta Public Schools.

The northwest Atlanta school was placed on a lockdown after a teacher received a report that a student was showing off a weapon, APS said. The student was searched and a gun was allegedly found in his possession.

The student was arrested by Atlanta Public Schools Police Department officers and “further disciplinary action will be taken against him,” the statement said.

Officers conducted a safety sweep of the school and the lockdown was lifted. No injuries to students or staff were reported.

A letter regarding the incident was prepared for parents and caregivers, APS said.

The incident is one of a few similar cases that have happened in metro Atlanta recently. On Thursday, the Lamar County superintendent said a 6-year-old student was found with an unloaded handgun at school.

Last week, a person with a gun entered Martin Luther King High School in Lithonia, and a student at an Atlanta high school accidentally discharged a gun.
