Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms named former TV news anchor and reporter Keith Whitney director of communications on Friday.

In a statement, Bottoms said Whitney has “built a reputation for telling the truth and earned the respect of viewers and community leaders alike.”

Whitney’s first day is Wednesday. Whitney replaces Anne Torres who left city hall in April shortly before text messages revealed she apparently tried to frustrate media access to public records.
