Atlanta gyro spot gets an 85 following failed health inspection

A Gyro Bros location failed a recent health inspection. 

UPDATE: The restaurant passed a re-inspection Friday with an 85/B. Inspectors noted three violations: a failure to properly “cold hold” foods, a failure to properly label food and a failure to post a valid food service permit. 

ORIGINAL STORY (published Aug. 31): A Midtown gyro spot failed a recent health inspection, Fulton County records show.

The Gyro Bros near Georgia Tech scored a 53/U following the Wednesday evaluation. Scores below 70 are considered failing. Its prior score, from November, was a 97.

According to the report, there was Tzatziki sauce marked with a date of Aug. 7. That’s 23 days before the inspection, and nine days after it’s required to have been discarded.

Officials also reported a hand sink without hot water and an employee preparing food without a hair restraint.

A man who answered the phone said a manager was not available to comment Thursday. The chain has six locations across metro Atlanta. 

Follow-up inspections are generally completed within 10 days of the original evaluation.
