Three military students from Afghanistan who were training at bases in Georgia have gone AWOL this month, according to a media report.

Two of the students were at Fort Benning, which is near Columbus, the Ledger-Enquirer reported. The other student was at Fort Gordon, which is near Augusta.

Four other military students from Afghanistan at U.S. bases also have gone AWOL, or absent without official leave, this month, the paper reported.

It’s not clear what training the Afghans were receiving at Fort Benning, a major Army installation, according to the report.

“(Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s) Homeland Security Investigations is aware of the situation, and is working in coordination with the State Department and the Department of Defense,” ICE Public Affairs Officer Carissa Cutrell told the paper. “Specific details regarding these activities are not available at this time.”
