Ga. 400 entrance, roads closed for downed trees in metro Atlanta

Tropical Storm Irma’s strong winds have knocked down trees, closing some metro Atlanta roads, including Georgia 400 at Sidney Marcus Blvd.

Other major intersections closed include Piedmont Road at Pharr Road and East Paces Ferry Road at Lenox Road.

In Sandy Springs, a tree that came down on power lines closed Hammond Drive at Peachtree Dunwoody Road. All lanes of Hammond Drive are closed from the Ga. 400 North on-ramp to Concourse Parkway.

A tree also took down power lines at Riverside Drive and Dalrymple Road, but that road is now open. 

Sandy Springs also reported road closures at Northside Drive and Garmon Road, where a tree came down, and at 580 Hammond Drive, near Lorrell Terrace, where a tree fell on a house.

Entrance to the Benton Woods neighborhood is blocked. Johnson Ferry Road is closed in both directions at Riverside Drive.

And at 400 Southbound at Northridge, just before the exit, a tree down is blocking most of the right-hand travel lane.

Trees were down in Atlanta, as well, closing roads.

  • Cleveland Ave. at Metropolitan Parkway; 
  • Stokeswood Ave. Southeast at Pendleton Street Southeast; 
  • 75 Mayson Ave. Northeast; 
  • 2007 Morehouse Drive Northwest; 
  • White St. Southwest at Lee St. Southwest; 
  • North Ave. at Oliver St. Northwest; 
  • 2800 Browns Mill Southeast; 
  • East Paces Ferry Road Northeast at Lenox Road;
  • 2055 Springlake Drive Northwest; 
  • 208 Eureka Drive Northwest; 
  • Georgia 400 Southbound expressway at Sidney Marcus Blvd.;
  • 569 Martina Drive Northeast; 
  • 543 McWilliams;
  • 911 Bouldercrest Drive;
  • 279 Mellrich Ave.;
  • Piedmont Road at Pharr Road;
  • 2876 1st Ave.;
  • 2866 Bob White Drive;
  • 2103 West Cedar Lane Southwest; 
  • 448 Metropolitan Place SE.

Across Fulton County, residents who notice downed trees are asked not to call their cities’ police depratments.

Instead, call Fulton County’s Public Works Department at 404-613-3108. 

Residents are advised to take pictures of the damage and contact their home insurance providers if trees fall on their property.
