Atlanta Public Schools officials will schedule a dismissal hearing to consider the future of an autism teacher who allegedly hit a student as more details about the incident emerged.
Special education autism teacher Angela Christian was temporarily reassigned from her duties at Ralph J. Bunche Middle School after she was arrested Oct. 19 on a misdemeanor battery charge.
Christian allegedly struck a student “in the facial area with a closed fist,” according to an APS police report obtained Tuesday by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution after a public records request.
The student suffered minor face lacerations, the report stated. The district has not released any information about the student, citing federal student privacy laws.
An APS spokeswoman said Tuesday a dismissal hearing will be scheduled by the district’s legal department for a date yet to be determined.
Christian has taught special education for more than 25 years, according to a biography posted on the middle school’s website.
