State Rep. Rob Teilhet, a Democrat running for attorney general, said Friday his proposal would punish offenders who violate the law with 60 days in jail and a $1,500 fine. Similar proposals have been adopted in Florida, Indiana and Maryland.
Teilhet, a Smyrna attorney, calls the measure "an excellent tool for our police officers and our parents to use on a night when many of our children are out and vulnerable."
He said as a parent, he wants all children to steer clear of homes where sex offenders live.
